The South Sudan’s army has
started making advances into the key rebel-held centers of Bentiu and Bor since
the rebels have strengthened their defenses in Bentiu.
An army spokesman was quoted by the BBC that the government
troops were just 15 kilometers or 9 miles away from Bor. Hundreds of people
have already fled out of Bor expecting violence.
Till date at least 1, 000 people have already been killed in
this two way fighting which was started on 15th of December last
year. All the ceasefire talks are also failed since then.
Gunmen are shooting down civilians; they torch entire
villages and loot crops. The gunmen have machine guns with them and they keep
on firing at innocent civilians as they try to swim across a river.
“The bullets were
hitting the water, but we knew we could not stop or they had shot us.”
Said one of the survivors who tried to flee via a floating river in which many
got killed but only one cattle remained alive.
The major number of people is fleeing and going to the town
of Minkammen
which is about 25 kilometers or 15 miles south of Bor.
As per AFP about 80, 000 people have already taken a refuge
there.
