The interim President of the Central African Republic, Michael
Djotodia will face the pressure to step down when he is going to attend a
regional summit today.
Djotodia has failed to bring any solution to bring down the
violence between Christian and Muslim militias and thus it has given a fire to
these speculations.
Although the CAR officials are denying any such event
happening at the CEEAC summit commencing today in the neighboring country Chad.
The Seleka rebels had staged a coup in March last year which
put Djotodia as the country’s first ever Muslim President. At that time
Francois Bozize was the CAR’s majority Christian president.
He was forced to go into an exile and since his exit CAR is
facing a huge disruption. Even the United Nations have warned of an upcoming
humanitarian disaster.
The Secretary General of the Economic Community of Central
African States (CEEAC) has already said that the group would tell Mr. Djotodia
that his government is not working well to defuse the tension.
The Secretary General of CEEAC Mr. Ahmat Allami said in the Chad capital
N’Djamena that, “It may happen that CEEAC. We cannot continue to support such
transition, although the regime change is not the goal of the meeting.”
