Toronto’s Pearson International
Airport officials have
warned that it will not be easy to travel today from the airport today due to
yesterday’s widespread delays and cancellations because of freezing
temperatures.
Yesterday morning the airport came to a near standstill due
to freezing temperatures caused pervasive delays for the arriving passengers.
Thousands of passengers are still busy trying re-book their flights.
Thousands of passengers who have arrived on Tuesday morning, waited for hours for their planes reach the gate. Then it took further few
hours to claim their luggage.
Many passengers even left the airport without their bags and
thus the almost entire arrival area covered with unclaimed baggage.
Early on Tuesday morning the airport officials ordered a
‘ground stop’. This means prevention of new flights from arriving. Although the
ground stop was lifted just after 10 am.
The Tuesday’s ground stop was blamed on the chain effect of
severe weather conditions in Canada
and as well as in the United
States.
Just an hour or so back the Airport Authority has issued
a Twitter message which is warning the passengers that there are enough chances
of ‘slow start up’ on Wednesday morning as well.
As per 6am ET almost 400 flights operating out of the
Pearson Airport has already been cancelled and about 20 percent of scheduled
departures are also being cancelled.
