The former world number one and American tennis star Venus
Williams has been knocked out of the first round of the Australian Open 2014
today.
Russian tennis player Ekaterina Makarova defeated Venus
Williams in a three set game by 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Australian Open is the first
Grand Slam of the year.
Venus Williams, who is facing a near end to her career has
won Seven Grand Slams and has made an exit in the first round for last six
Grand Slams in a row.
Before that she had been beaten only three times in 54 major
titles she played for.
Although Venus Williams started her game against 22nd
Seeded Makarova very well and even won the first set quit easily, but later on
she failed to consolidate.
Makarova will now face unseeded Irina Falconi, the Italian
in the second round. Falconi has defeated
Spains Anabel Medina Garrigues.
There is no further news of further big defeats as of now.
