The power outages across the Newfoundland have worsened on Sunday night
after a sudden problem occurred in already troubled power generating station in
Holyrood.
Dawn Dalley, the vice-president with Crown owned Nalcor
Energy said that the power plant was already operating with less than the normal
capacity since series of problems rocked the province on Thursday.
About 100, 000 customers immediately lost power around
9.30NT on Thursday when the problem occurred for the first time in the Newfoundland switchyard.
Although the power was soon restored to some customers and
gradually being brought back on the line. But at the same time there is no
estimate on how many customers have got the power back.
The Newfoundland
and Labrador Hydro has confirmed that there was no damage to any of its power
generating equipment.
Few people have reportedly seen a green flash or few even
heard some assumed explosion but as per Mr. Dalley that loud boom is normal. He
was talking with CBC news just a few hours back.
The power outage occurred because the Newfoundland Power
which is the main supplier of power to the Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro stopped a
series of rolling blackouts to keep the grid safe.
The opposition leader Dwight Ball has slammed the government
for this full blown energy crisis.
