The Polar air has forced all the previous winter records to
tumble down in the United
States of America. The Midwest
of the country was shivering over in the past few days now.
Although the East and South of the country was spared by the
cold today. The mercury was plunging into the single digits and in the middle teens
in New York, Boston,
Atlanta, Birmingham,
Little Rock and Nashville.
‘The big chill’ as it has been called, started during the
weekend in the Midwest and by today it has
covered almost the 50 percent of the country. New York
was high at 10 and Boston
was around 18.
In Birmingham
the mercury dipped to 7 where previous record was 11 in the year 1970.
Nashville in Tennessee got down to 2, Huntsville in Alaska
dropped to 5, Atlanta in Georgia down to 6 and Little Rock in Arkansas went
down to 9.

-9 (Previous -5), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 4 (Previous 7), Cleveland,
Ohio -11 (Previous -7), New
York City 4 (Previous 6), Detroit, Michigan -14 (Previous -5) and Baltimore, Maryland
3 (Previous 8).
Chicago
witnessed minus 12 overnight on Monday. More than 500 Amtrak passengers were
also left stranded overnight when three Chicago
bound trains had to be stopped due to blowing and drifting snow in Illinois.
