A nun from El Salvador who gave birth to a baby boy last
week in Italy has described him as ‘a gift of God’ and has vowed to take care
of him is now facing expulsion from the convent.
Sister Roxana Rodriguez (33) was rushed to a hospital in the
town of Rieti which is some 50 miles away from Rome, due to an acute
stomach pain apparently was unaware of her pregnancy.
After few hours of getting admitted in the hospital she gave
birth to a baby boy who was weighing nearly 9lb and sister Roxana named him
Francesco to honor the current Pope.
“I will definitely take care of my baby because he is a gift
of God.” Sister Roxana told this to a social worker Anna Fontanella. The father
of the baby is believed to be living in Al Salvador.
Father Bendedetto Falcetti who is the head of the regional
branch of the Catholic charity Caritas believes that Sister Roxana became
pregnant when she went to Al Salvador to renew her passport.
Local bishop Delio Lucarelli said that Sister Roxana will
now have to leave the Little Disciples of Jesus convert where she is currently
living.
The head of that convert, Sister Erminia Pusceddu was more
critical of Sister Roxanna who said, “She did not know how to resist
temptation.”
