Super Typhoon ‘Haiyan’ which is told to be one of the most
intense typhoons ever recorded has hit the central island
of Samar of Philippines today. It has triggered
flash floods and has ripped down buildings as millions of people are feared
homeless. Samar is around 600 kilometers, southeast of the capital city Manila has been hit by
‘Haiyan’ around 4.40 am local today or 2040 GMT –Thursday. The state
meteorologist Mr. Romeo Cajulis told the AFP that ‘Haiyan’ which has wind gusts
of around 380 kilometers per hour or 235 miles per hour as it hit the country.

president Benigno Aquino had already released a warning on Thursday to his
fellow countrymen to go into safe places and make all preparations to fight the
typhoon Haiyan. In his national television address Benigno Aquino said, “ To
our local officials, I want to say that your constituents are facing a serious
threat. Let us do all we can do at this moment while Haiyan has not hit our
land yet.” Then he added, “We can only minimize the effects of this typhoon if
we help eachother out. We must remain calm, especially while we go out an buy
our primary needs and move into the safer places”

Haiyan carried the maximum sustained winds at it approached
the south eastern country this morning with the speed of 315 kilometers per
hour and with the gusts of 379 kilometers an hour. This record was published
publically by the United States’s
Joint Typhoon Warning
Center earlier today. Although
the Philippine state weather services gave a lower wind readings and said that
the wind speed was just over 275 kilometers per hour. This is a very typical
practice of this office it is learnt. Even if one take this stat it still
remains world’s strongest typhoon this
year confirms Mr. David Michael Padua who works as meteorologist with
the Weather Philippines Foundation which is a private storm monitoring
organization.
