In a surprise move, the US
secretary of state John Kerry will fly to Geneva
to join talks on Iran’s
nuclear program in the middle of hoisting expectations of an outcome. Mr. Kerry
already had a visit to the Middle East last
week on this issue along with several others last week only but he has changed
his currant plans upon the invitation sent by the European Union foreign policy
chief, Catherine Ashton. The Iranian foreign minister Mr. Mohammad Zarif is
expecting to reach a deal by today. This meeting will involve all five major
nations of the UN plus Germany
and of course Iran.
A senior diplomat of the US
state department was quoted by the BBC saying that, Mr. Kerry is going to help
to narrow the differences in the negotiations between Iran and group of five plus Germany. This
dramatic turnaround also suggests that the deal is very much within the reach. The
Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Mohammad Javed Zarif told CNN yesterday that “Iran would not
like to suspend its uranium enrichment plans completely but it is ready to have
a deal with the various issues expected to be on table.”

On the other hand the western countries are fearing that
these uranium enrichment plants of Iran will ultimately lead to the
manufacturing of nuclear weapons. But on Thursday the US offered some relief in sanctions in lieu of some “concrete and verifiable measures” from Iran. But the
Prime Minister of Israel
Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu was of the opinion that this ‘nuclear deal’ would be a
historical mistake as (as per him) Iran is only offering fake concessions to
get the relief from economic and various other sanctions have been put on it.
Before flying to Geneva
today, Mr. John Kerry is expected to meet Mr. Netanyahu. It will be a huge
change in both the mindsets of Iran
and the western world if this deal is reached.
