A typhoon which has created havoc on a Japanese island today
before it has swept across the Pacific coast. The typhoon has caused big and
killing mudslides which have buried plenty of people and has destroyed homes
completely. Hundreds of flights are grounded currently and Tokyo’s transportation is totally interrupted
at the moment. As of now 14 deaths and 50 people missing are reported.

The hardest suffering island is Izu Oshima which about 120
kilometers or 75 miles from the south of Tokyo. Rescuers have found 13 dead bodies and most
of them were found buried by the mudslides. The city police and town officials
have confirmed these deaths. Plenty of homes are destroyed and more than 50
people are missing as per the authorities quoted by news agency AP.
The town official Mr. Hinani Uematsu has said, that “We have
no idea about how bad the extent of the damage can be.” One woman from Tokyo
died after she fell into a river which has washed about 10 kilometers or 6
miles of area to Yokohama.
Two sixth grade school going boys and one more person is reported missing from Japan’s main island of Honshu.
Yokohama Police and city’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency have confirmed
these reports.
As per government officials, more than 350 homes have either
been damaged badly or have been destroyed completely on the Izu Oshima Island. The number of the homes which
are completely destroyed are 283. Typhoon ‘Wipha’ which stayed in the Pacific
has produced sustained winds of around 126 kmph or 78 mph speed and has gusts
up to 180 kph. In last 24 hours more than 30 inches or 80 centimeters of rain
have already been recorded on the Izu Oshima island. It is a new record since
1991. The rain is so heavy that people neither can see nor can hear anything.
Fukushima’s
Dai-ichi nuclear power plant has already released tons of rainwater to keep the
safety measures intact. This plant was hit badly in 2011 killer earthquake.
