One of the worst ice storms has hit the city of Toronto on Sunday in the
recent memories of its citizens. If this was not enough the Mayor Rob Ford has
warned the people of Toronto to brace up for longer power outages and major
transit problems. Toronto witnessed with either the freezing drizzle or
freezing rain for more than 24 hours started from Sunday early morning and it
has led to old trees came crashing down on cars parking below them, on homes
and on the power lines. Sheets of ice also fell from the buildings and then
flew off the moving vehicles along the area of highways.

As per the Toronto Hydro which provides electricity to the
city, more than 264,000 of its customers are without power as per the reports
last came in. In the Southern Ontario almost
100,000 more customers or Toronto Hydro are not having power for the same
is not having combinations of terrible circumstances have prompted the police
and other civic authorities to request people to stay calm, safe and remain
inside their homes only. Even Premier Kathleen Waynne said, “If you don’t have
to go out, it’s better to stay off the roads.”
The initial estimates are to be believed then it will take Toronto
Hydro at least three days to restore absolute power. These estimates also mean
that some people will be waiting for power on the Christmas day too. Power is
not only the issue for the people living in Toronto but it has created major problems for
the Toronto Transit Commission as well. It has although deployed shuttle buses
which are helping people to move after streetcar lines and the subway lines
have been stopped. Although TTC’s chief executive officer, Andthe TTC’s chief executive officer that, “the buses are running normally but with some delays but
the biggest challenge we have which is not stopping as of now is with the
streetcar lines.”
