The polls have been closed now in what is expected to be a very closely contested by-election in Toronto-Centre. Two of the well known journos and writers are going neck and neck in these by-elections. The Liberal candidate Chrystia Freeland and the New Democrate candidate Linda McQuig are two of the most prominent candidates for these elections.

These elections conducted after the former Libral interim leader Mr. Bob Rae resigned from this mixture of low-income and very wealthy resident area of this part of Canada. This income disproportion has been very much a part of the election campaign and was part of writings of both Freeland and McQuaig on how they will tackle this issue. This seat has been a strong hold of Librals for two decades now and the Democrats would be extremely happy to get back the seat in their pockets, should they win this election. If that happens then certainly Liberals should face a very serious setback as they are planning to make a comeback plans on to the downtown riding. The other two contestants for this election is Geoff Pollock who is representing the Conservatives whereas John Deverell is contesting from the Green Party.
This is one of those four seats which are ready to be won in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba and they all will test the opposition party which are seen as the best option against the federal Conservatives.
Chrystia Freeland has termed these by-elections as “the first act ahead of the 2015 general elections”. She is a degree holder from both Harvard and Oxford universities and was editor at the Thomson Reuters and she is also an award winning writer.
But her opponent Linda McQuaig has taken a cue from her these qualities and has called her ‘a tourist’ while campaigning for the elections. As per McQuaig, Freeland doesn’t have any knowledge about the ground reality as she has lived in Toronto for not more than two years.
The results are started to flow soon.
