Novak Djokovic overcame the tough challenge set by Juan
Martin del Porto and has defended his Shanghai Masters title with the score
line of 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 win. It is worth mentioning that del Porto the
Argentinean had defeated Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the tournament. This
is Djokovic’s second Chinese
championship win after winning the China Open last week.
Djokovic looked shaky in the second set and was kept on slipping
on the concrete court but then came back really well and defeated Juan Martin
del Potro. For those who are keen followers of the game of Tennis will know
That these two have come really close in fight for many matches for the past almost
18 months now. It all started with del Porto’s heroic win in the Olympic Bronze
Medal win in London.
Djokovic then came back strongly against del Porto and took his revenge by
beating him in the five set thriller at the Wimbledon
this British summer.
If we need to evaluate the game in short, we can say that
the second set of the final of the Shanghai Masters was the only weak point in
Novak Djokovic’s game. He really played well and things were completely in his
control in the first and in the third set. One thing should be noted that
Djokovic has always done well when he plays in Asia-Pacific region. He has lost
only one match out of his 55 matches played in this region. The only defeat he
had to face was against Andy Murray in last year’s Dubai Open semi-final.
For del Porto this is his third runner up ending at the
Shanghai Masters. He has won a unique record of winning a grand slam (2009-US
Open) but has never won a Master’s title!! But when you read the names he has
faced in the finals you will realize that he is not at all at the fault. He has
faced Murray,
Nadal and Djokovic in the finals that are really tough to beat when it comes to
big matches.
